Chapter 47: Snow Melts into Spring

Mu Xuanling cried until she had nothing left. Between the tears and the vast spiritual power Xie Xuechen had channeled into her body, exhaustion claimed her completely. She fell into a deep, dreamless sleep. Xie Xuechen stayed, carefully regulating her meridians with gentle precision. When he finished, he simply watched her sleeping face for a long time—memorizing the peaceful rise and fall of her breath, the way her lashes rested against her cheeks. Finally, reluctantly, he left the room and instructed the maid to prepare hot water for when she woke. Dawn had barely broken when concern drew him back. He pushed open the door quietly. A faint, pleasant fragrance lingered in the air like morning mist. Mu Xuanling lay on her side on the couch, draped in soft robes that had slipped slightly off one shoulder. Her delicate skin still held a pink tinge—like peach blossoms after rain. Her breathing was light and even, eyelashes flutt...

Chapter 12: Web of Seduction

Yun Wan stared in shock at the puddle of unknown liquid on the ground. If Xie Tingyun hadn’t reacted in time, she would be the one melted into that vile mess.

She turned sharply—

Above them, several massive bird-shaped figures circled. No—not beasts. They bore wings and eagle talons, yes, but their torsos were unmistakably human. A flock of bow-wielding birdmen hovered overhead, ambushing from every direction, encircling the two completely.

The wind rose. The hats covering Yun Wan and Xie Tingyun’s faces blew to the ground.

The one who appeared to be their leader raised his arm. Arrows were loosed instantly. Xie Tingyun was already anticipating it; he swept Yun Wan into his arms and dodged the rain of arrows with cold efficiency.

After several sharp swishes, the ground was littered with arrows—but none had touched them.

The half-demons didn’t give up. Their aim was impressive, but still useless—Yun Wan, watching them shoot and miss repeatedly, silently crowned them Humanity’s Strongest Stroke-Masters. Such blind, futile effort… they might as well deliver courier packages for her instead of wasting all that arm strength.

And then—

Yun Wan’s eyes suddenly brightened with an idea.

“Thanks for listening to me, Xie Tingyun.”

“…Hm?”

“What race are these guys?”

“Half-demon,” he replied coolly.

“Huh?”

“One parent demon. One parent human. Their children are half-demons.”

Yun Wan was quiet for a long moment.
“Why can’t it be… ladyboy?”

Xie Tingyun paused. Then, with effort, explained.

Among all six realms, none were despised like half-demons. Their mixed blood condemned them: rejected by the demon world, hated in the human world. They lived in the gap between night and dawn—never fully dark, never allowed to stand under the bright sun.

And so half-demons became the cheapest labor force. Feed them, and they would serve anyone.

Yun Wan fell silent.

Honestly, this sounded like the perfect workforce to run deliveries for her.

“Brother!” Yun Wan shouted brightly to the leader. “Can we talk?”

The half-demon hesitated—then resumed his attacking posture.

Xie Tingyun glanced at her, already knowing exactly what chaotic idea was running through her mind. He sighed, shook his head, and said, “Half-demons are pitiful, but loyal. If their master lives, they will remain loyal. Therefore…”

“Understood!” Yun Wan clapped her hands. “You need to help me kill their master.”

Xie Tingyun: “?”

Yun Wan: “Xie Tingyun, you are so reliable.”

He absolutely did not say that—but fine.
Killing a minor demon wasn’t difficult.

He nodded. “Yes.”

And that, in Yun Wan’s mind, was agreement.

The two of them deliberately stopped resisting. The bird-men lowered their weapons and tied them up—clearly, the master wanted them captured alive.

Along the way, Yun Wan walked in the middle of the procession like an obedient salary worker, secretly memorizing every landmark. They passed through forest and stream until they reached a stone cliff. The leader knocked three times; the rock cracked open, releasing a damp, unpleasant stench.

Yun Wan and Xie Tingyun were taken inside.

Stone steps wound downward endlessly. The narrow passage held only flickering green ghost-fires for illumination. The deeper they went, the heavier the air grew.

Eventually, the cavern widened. A plaque reading “Thousand Silk Cave” came into view. Beneath it sat a jade throne—its armrests decorated with human skulls. A faint, eerie crying drifted through the cave, impossible to pinpoint.

Plop.

A drop of thick liquid fell onto Yun Wan’s shoulder.

She slowly looked up—and nearly screamed.

The walls were layered with spider webs, cocooning countless people like silkworms. Some still squirmed faintly. Others were shriveled corpses fused with the webbing.

Yun Wan’s eyes bulged. She clamped onto Xie Tingyun’s arm with a death grip.

He actually laughed softly. “Do you dare earn this money?”

Dare she?

Of course she dared!

As the ancients said:
You’re a fool if you don’t take money handed to you!

But—they needed rules.

Yun Wan whispered, “…Are you going to draw your sword?”

“It’s not good.”

“Then can you beat it?”

“…Hard to say.”

Then why say anything at all!!

She regretted her life choices—slightly. Not enough to turn back.

As the saying goes:
Wealth is found in danger.
If it works, it’s a legendary tale.
If it fails… well, that’s an unfortunate accident.

Yun Wan touched her storage bag. Inside were talismans of every size. Judging from the cave, the master was obviously a spider demon. And what were spiders afraid of? Fire! In this damp, poorly ventilated cave, even a spark would turn into a small explosion.

Escape was definitely possible.

With that reassurance, Yun Wan calmed down.

Finally, a limp young man with a powdered face came out. Yun Wan recognized him—it was the unlucky kid she abducted earlier.

He glared at her with hatred. Ten years of kidnapping others, never once being kidnapped himself—until her. Fortunately, his master was the Thousand Silk Cave Master, a spider demon with six hundred years of cultivation.

“Little girl,” he growled, “you dared lie to me. You’ll pay for it later!”

Yun Wan hid her storage bag. “An eye for an eye,” she retorted.

He ordered them shoved into the inner palace.

The scent inside was wrong—thick, sticky, and strangely suggestive.

Yun Wan, being a cauldron body, felt the effects even through the spirit seal. Her heartbeat sped up, her vision blurred, her mind drowned in messy thoughts.

Xie Tingyun immediately swept away the aura with a flick of his hand and placed a protective spell on her.

The discomfort vanished at once. She hurried closer to him. He held her small hand, letting her calm herself.

Squeak.

The door opened.

They stepped inside.

Smoke veiled the hall. Layers of gauzy curtains swayed. A chorus of moans drifted through the haze.

Yun Wan turned scarlet. She peeked at Xie Tingyun—his expression didn’t shift an inch.

Suddenly, the sounds stopped.

A sultry voice called, “You. Come here.”

Yun Wan grabbed Xie Tingyun instantly.

He agreed to help kill the demon—not to sell his body!!

He chuckled softly, squeezing her hand. “It’s fine.”

But then—

“I meant the woman,” the voice said casually. “Come here.”

Xie Tingyun froze.
Yun Wan gaped.

“Men bore me. I wish to try a woman today. Come here. Don’t make me repeat myself.”

“…???”
Sister, gender discrimination is also a skill, apparently!

Yun Wan trembled dramatically as she walked forward.

The impatient banshee swept aside the curtain.

She was stunning—curves draped in red silk, half-lying on a soft couch. A naked man lay at her feet, unmoving, unsure if alive. If this were any normal day, Yun Wan would have praised her beauty.

But the eight spider legs beneath her skirt made Yun Wan reconsider all her life philosophies.

The spider demon flicked a red silk rope, yanking Yun Wan onto the couch.

Up close, the banshee truly was beautiful—seductive aura thick as wine. Yun Wan couldn’t help staring, dazed.
“Sister… you’re so beautiful…”

Her voice was airy, intoxicated.

The banshee sneered. “This look bores me.”

Yun Wan: Excuse me?? Rude!

“Then what about me?”

A cold male voice cut through the air like falling snow.

The banshee turned.

Through the drifting mist stood a man with a sword on his back—robe and dark hair lifting gently with the wind. His expression was placid, emotionless, eyes deadly calm.

A flash of sword-light—
And eight spider legs fell to the floor.

“You—!”

She lunged, but in the blink of an eye, she froze mid-motion and collapsed.
Even Yun Wan, who stood closest, hadn’t seen Xie Tingyun move.

He stood tall, peerless sword unsheathed. Dark violet sword-qi swirled around the blade. The sword’s presence crushed the cave’s corpse-energy; the entire cavern drowned under its overwhelming force.

The banshee’s true form—an enormous, hideous red-eyed spider—split cleanly in two.

Green blood soaked the ground. Not a drop touched the sword.

“Still beautiful?” Xie Tingyun asked calmly.

Only then did Yun Wan realize—
…He was asking her.

She had been bewitched by demonic charm earlier. He was… jealous?

“Not beautiful, not beautiful at all. You’re the most beautiful,” she blurted.
Honestly, the man looked cold normally, but he was surprisingly vain.

The half-demons finally realized what happened.

“He killed the demon lord!”

“That man killed the demon lord!”

They scattered like startled birds.

Xie Tingyun ignored them. He placed his palm over the spider demon’s abdomen, pulling out a glowing golden demon pill. The banshee’s body dissolved into mist.

He held out the pill.
“Eat.”

Yun Wan trembled at the thought of spider belly juice. “N-no…”

“It will increase your cultivation.”

Well then!

She took it, swallowed hard. “Aren’t you eating?”

“Ugly. I don’t want it.”

Yun Wan: Sir, how much pettiness do you store in that cold heart?

“…Will anything happen if I eat it?” she asked nervously.

“For others, cultivating requires absorbing spiritual energy. Your body isn’t suited to that. To break through Qi Refinement quickly, you need monster elixirs or demon pills. Eat.”

She gulped. Closed her eyes. Swallowed the demon pill.

At first—nothing.
Then a hot wave surged sharply from her abdomen.

“…How is it?” Xie Tingyun asked.

How?

Well—

She now desperately wanted to sleep with someone.
