Chapter 48: Bloodlines and Mirrors

Mu Xuanling couldn't help but laugh at Fu Lansheng's theatrical reaction. After steadying A Bao on her feet, she explained with amusement, "Young Palace Master, this is A Bao!" The moment Mu Xuanling released her, A Bao instinctively dropped to all fours, her childish voice piping up earnestly. "Big Brother, don't you recognize me?" Fu Lansheng's suspicious gaze darted between the three of them before finally settling on the little girl crouched like a mouse on the floor. "The voice does sound very similar…" He approached cautiously, studying her features. Caught between laughter and exasperation, Mu Xuanling pulled A Bao upright again. "A Bao, you're in human form now. You can't act like a mouse anymore." A Bao wrinkled her nose, fidgeting with her skirt hem. Her large, dark eyes clouded with worry. "But standing on two legs is so tiring. Why can't I stay on all fours?" This is definite...

Synopsis:

Xie Xuan was wicked in life—and just as unrepentant in death. Denied reincarnation, she was cast into the sea of blood, doomed to fade into nothingness.

But before her soul vanished, she was saved by Feng Xun—the ghost king of Fengdu, a celestial being who descended from the upper realm. Pure-hearted and noble, he believed even the darkest souls could be redeemed.

He clothed Xie Xuan for the first time in human garments, taught her words, and guided her toward virtue. The first word she ever wrote was his name—Feng Xun.

Yet, what he thought was redemption became deception. Xie Xuan learned not purity, but pretense. Behind her gentle smile, she hid the cunning of a serpent. One day, dressed clumsily in rouge and pearls, she tried to trick Feng Xun into setting her free.

He looked at her for a long time, eyes soft beneath the ghost mask. “Is that it?” he asked—then kissed her brow and whispered, “I’ve taken the bait.”

Xie Xuan never understood what he meant—until much later.

Back in the mortal world, she fulfilled her vengeance. She burned kingdoms, spilled royal blood, and drove her dagger into the Crown Prince’s chest—only to see Feng Xun’s face emerge from the dying man’s features.

As his lifeless heart bled in her hands, she finally understood the cruelest truth of the gods—
A god can only be slain by the one he loves.

Years later, Xie Xuan rose again—not as a ghost, but as the ruler of the underworld. She conquered the heavens, captured the God King who bore Feng Xun’s face, and claimed him as her prisoner.

In the end, the sinner became the savior, the hunted became the hunter—
and love, in its most twisted form, conquered both heaven and hell.
