The story takes place in Ilushen. This place is no different from Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, Tokyo, or even New York, Vancouver, Zurich, and Amsterdam. They are all just cities in a peaceful and prosperous era. Technology is changing with each passing day, and life keeps pace with the times. The city is crowded with businessmen, with countless beautiful women and outstanding young talents, and the rich live in villas like Bilihua - Hong Kong has Victoria Peak, Taiwan has Yangmingshan - the city itself is like a fairy tale. No matter how many twists and turns, it is still artificially copied in a fixed pattern. The prosperous and beautiful Ilushen is no exception.
Early Monday morning, Chi Bika, the HR manager at Qianyu Organization, received a call. The moment she heard the voice on the other end, her expression turned respectful.
After a brief conversation, her respectful demeanor faded, replaced by hesitation and embarrassment.
While she was deep in thought, Liu Danran from the Secretary Department called on the internal line.
"Bika, when will Yang Ying begin her new role?"
"I was just about to discuss that. Yang Ying can only work this Friday at the latest. She will report to Ouyang at the New York branch next Monday."
"I’m considering recommending Du Xintong from the Technology Department and Zhang Duanyan from the Planning Department as her successors. What do you think?"
"Both of them are excellent choices," Chi Bika replied after a moment’s reflection. "But what about Wen Nuan from the Business Department? How is she?"
"Wen Nuan is also outstanding. She’s calm, intelligent, and flexible, with first-class professional qualities. I had initially planned to recommend her, but there’s a company policy that this position requires a minimum of three years at Qianyu. She’s only been here for two years and lacks the experience. If I promote her now, it might cause some issues."
Chi Bika smiled and said, "Danran, you and I both know that Qianyu values talent above all else. Yang Ying was promoted as an exception, and President Zhan was very satisfied with her performance. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been promoted and transferred to New York as deputy manager in just two years." Understanding the context, Liu Danran responded, "You’re right. President Zhan isn’t overly concerned with these formalities. How about this: I’ll recommend all three candidates to you, and you can evaluate them."
"Okay, I’ll meet with all of them. To be honest, I can’t make such a significant decision alone. Ultimately, I’ll need to report to President Zhan and let him make the final choice."
After ending the call, Chi Bika let out a sigh of relief, feeling as though a heavy burden had been lifted.
Within a short time, an announcement appeared on Qianyu’s internal network, reaching every employee's inbox. The secretarial department decided to recommend Du Xintong, Zhang Duanyan, and Wen Nuan as candidates for the president's secretary position. Wen Nuan, despite having the least experience, was selected as an exception, which sparked some discussions in the break room.
Chi Bika reviewed the performance evaluations of all three candidates before scheduling meetings with Du Xintong and Zhang Duanyan.
Finally, it was Wen Nuan's turn.
This was the second time Chi Bika had reviewed her resume. The first was during her recruitment two years ago.
Wen Nuan’s resume was simpler compared to the other two. She had moved to the UK at fifteen and stayed there for seven years. Returning at twenty-two, she was an exchange student in her senior year of university. After graduating the following year, she joined Qianyu's secretarial department. Her exceptional performance led to her promotion to senior assistant manager in the Business Department a year ago.
Chi Bika calmly observed Wen Nuan sitting across from her desk. With her long black hair and a face like jade, Wen Nuan’s clear eyebrows and autumn-like eyes conveyed focus and serenity. Two small pearls adorned her crystal-clear earlobes.
Standing at about 165 cm, Wen Nuan wore a powder-blue Givenchy spring jacket and a knee-length skirt, combining fashion with dignity. Her flawless calves were covered in jade-colored transparent stockings, and her delicate ankles were adorned with three-centimeter-high stiletto heels. Her light, graceful steps and slender figure made an impression. Compared to their first meeting two years ago, she now exuded calm and poise. While not as strikingly beautiful as Zhan Nanxian's girlfriend, Bo Yixin, Wen Nuan possessed a unique and elegant demeanor.
Even so, Chi Bika had always disliked those promoted through nepotism. If she hadn’t been forced to support that person, she wouldn’t have been sitting across from this young woman today.
She said coldly, “Zhan’s previous secretary has been transferred to the United States. The company needs to recommend someone to fill her position. Manager Liu from the Secretarial Department has recommended Du Xintong, Zhang Duanyan, and you. Are you interested in this role? What are your thoughts on being the president’s secretary?”
Wen Nuan didn’t respond immediately, remaining silent for a moment. This brief pause made Chi Bika view her differently. Unlike Du Xintong and Zhang Duanyan, who had prepared thoroughly, Wen Nuan’s lack of immediate enthusiasm was surprising. The role of the president’s secretary was highly coveted, even among unmarried women in the company. Although Wen Nuan might not be interested in the president himself, the position would significantly elevate her status and salary, putting her on par with senior managers. Why then, did her response differ so markedly from the others?
Chi Bika softened her tone, “If you have concerns, please share them.”
Wen Nuan offered a slight smile. “I’m confident in my ability to perform well in this role, but I’m unsure if I’m the right fit for it.”
“Why do you feel that way?”
“Because my boyfriend works for Daizhong. Manager Chi, you’re aware that Daizhong and our company have overlapping interests. If I work closely with the president, I’ll inevitably be exposed to sensitive cases and secrets. I worry that this might lead to complications.”
Chi Bika was taken aback. This was far beyond her expectations. “Your boyfriend holds a high position at Daizhong?”
In large organizations, it’s not unusual for couples to work in rival companies. However, if both hold sensitive roles, it could be problematic.
Wen Nuan replied calmly, “He is the general manager of Daizhong.” Chi Bika felt a chill. Zhu Linlu, the prominent figure at Daizhong?
“I understand. Please return to your duties for now. We’ll announce the results before the end of the day.”
After Wen Nuan left, Chi Bika quickly made a call, expressing her frustration. “My esteemed colleague, the person you recommended is not only unsuitable for President Zhan, but she might not even be appropriate for the company. Do you know—” The response from the other end left her stunned. She stood speechless, her mouth agape for a long moment before she finally managed to speak again. “Alright, we’ll proceed as you suggest.”
Normally, Chi Bika would have made the decision herself. Zhan Nanxian cared little for such details; he only wanted a competent individual and didn’t concern himself with who that person was. This time, however, she chose to email him while he was on an inspection trip, briefly explaining that the secretarial department had recommended three candidates. After the interviews, she felt Wen Nuan was the most suitable but had a special circumstance, so she sought his input.
Chi Bika wasn’t exaggerating when she said Wen Nuan was the most suitable. Setting aside her qualifications and background, Chi Bika would still prefer Wen Nuan. She saw through the ulterior motives of Du Xintong and Zhang Duanyan, whose eagerness was evident and suggested a lack of maturity. Wen Nuan, on the other hand, approached the matter with calmness. Her boyfriend’s position was comparable to Zhan Nanxian’s, which meant she likely wouldn’t have unrealistic expectations of her boss. Her ability to separate personal emotions from professional responsibilities would likely aid Zhan Nanxian in his work.
Before leaving work, Chi Bika received a reply instructing her to make her own decisions regarding such matters in the future without further reporting. She promptly posted an announcement on the internal network, and within moments, the entire Qianyu Organization knew that Wen Nuan from the Business Department had won the position and made a significant advancement.
In the following days, Wen Nuan was busy transitioning responsibilities from Yang Ying, who was about to depart, on the 66th floor.
Despite Yang Ying’s thorough explanations of the tasks at hand, the flood of overnight emails left Wen Nuan feeling overwhelmed. As Zhan Nanxian was on a business trip, all emails from senior employees were copied to her for review and action, enabling her to manage and respond to his various instructions.
Initially, Wen Nuan struggled with the multitude of emails. She frequently sought Yang Ying’s guidance or reached out to department heads to understand the context and details of each message, working to grasp the current status and future plans.
Qianyu’s core businesses—asset management, financial services, and information technology—had shifted focus. Six months prior, Zhan Nanxian had moved asset management and financial services to the U.S. and appointed his long-time friend as general manager. This decentralization of power had left Wen Nuan to handle the local information technology sector. As some mid-level employees began communicating directly with her, even Yang Ying was unfamiliar with certain matters, further complicating Wen Nuan’s workload. To manage the influx of tasks, she worked late into the night on the 66th floor each day.
When fatigued, she would retreat to the meeting room, sipping water and gazing quietly at the bustling city below.
The Qianyu Building, completed three years ago, stands in a prime commercial district. Both the main and annex buildings rise 66 stories. The main building, solely for office use, features a magnificent reception lobby connecting the floors. The third and fourth floors are dedicated to the company’s history and product exhibitions, while the upper floors serve as office spaces.
A large sky garden on the fourth floor connects the main and annex buildings, which house a staff restaurant, a café, a fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, and various sports courts. The 15th to 60th floors are hotel-style apartments for senior executives or employees on business trips. The 61st floor and above are presumed to be private areas for the president.
Zhan Nanxian’s success is nothing short of extraordinary.
At 18, with the Internet just emerging in Asia, he founded Qianyu Express with a capital of 2 million. Six months later, he secured 5 million in venture capital. As the Internet boom surged, Qianyu Express became a household name. Surprisingly, he sold the company for 300 million before graduating from university. Shortly after, the Internet bubble burst, leading to the collapse of 80% of similar companies. Zhan Nanxian’s timely exit made him a legend in the industry.
While his former colleagues struggled, Zhan, freshly graduated, entered the asset management and financial services field with substantial capital. His ventures included corporate private equity funds, hedge funds, real estate investment funds, and corporate M&A consulting.
Six months later, when Qianyu Express faced closure, he repurchased the company for 30 million, rebranded it as Qianyu Optical Technology, and listed it on Nasdaq. The IPO was oversubscribed by over ten times, with the price soaring from 30 to 90 USD within two hours, a 200% increase. This success exceeded all initial expectations.
In subsequent years, Qianyu expanded globally, becoming a leading organization with annual revenues nearing billions of dollars. Even Forbes struggled to assess Zhan Nanxian’s total wealth. In recent years, Qianyu successfully launched two commercial satellites into space.
Not only is Zhan Nanxian extraordinarily wealthy due to his exceptional business acumen, but he is also exceptionally handsome. At 28 years old, standing 1.85 meters tall with perfect proportions, he is among the top ten most eligible bachelors. His narrow waist, long legs, and striking features convey a timeless elegance and a mysterious allure, making him irresistibly attractive.
Female employees at the company often describe him as "the CEO so handsome that I almost fainted." This expression has become a running joke throughout the Qianyu building. If a colleague exclaims, "Oh no, I fainted again today," it usually means she has just seen Zhan Nanxian.
Despite knowing that any romantic involvement with him is impossible, many female employees still make a point to wait in places where he might pass by. The bolder ones might even try to "accidentally" bump into him, while the more reserved watch from a distance. Just catching a glimpse of him has become a kind of rite of passage for unmarried women at Qianyu. As a result, it’s not unusual to find colleagues fainting in the building on a regular basis. Zhan Nanxian, admired for both his wealth and looks, is often considered the epitome of unattainable perfection, making him a subject of fascination and envy.
He has been devoted to his first girlfriend, the renowned Bo Yixin, for ten years. They have been together since he was eighteen. Despite occasional flirtations in the business world, their love has remained steadfast, making them a celebrated couple in the media—something all newspapers report.
In the president's exclusive elevator, Gao Fang, head of the Business Department, was engrossed in a magazine. "It seems like even the air molecules in this city are eagerly awaiting your wedding with Yixin."
Zhan Nanxian, his hands in his trouser pockets, gazed at the display screen as the elevator ascended floor by floor. A faint, perfect smile played on his lips, but he remained silent.
When they reached the 66th floor, they were taken aback by the sight that greeted them. Two long white lights illuminated the ceiling near the entrance to the president’s office and the secretary’s area. The large space was otherwise empty, save for some green plants decorating the area and the hum of the central air conditioning. The secretary’s computer was still on, with files open, indicating that someone had temporarily stepped away.
Gao Fang chuckled, "Wen Nuan is still working hard."
Footsteps, hesitant and faint, approached from somewhere in the spacious area before stopping at the conference room door.
Zhan Nanxian turned to see Wen Nuan standing there, her calm eyes meeting his. They locked gazes for a moment before Wen Nuan spoke, "Mr. Zhan, Manager Gao."
"Why are you still here so late?" Gao Fang asked, half-joking, "Senior employees don't get overtime pay."
With a smile, Wen Nuan replied, "I'm just about to leave."
Zhan Nanxian, maintaining his composure, gave her a brief nod before pushing open the dark rose-colored wooden doors—each more than a meter wide—and entered his office.
He walked to the back of his desk but did not sit. Instead, he approached the transparent glass curtain wall. The city below had long lost its starlight, leaving only the flickering neon lights. The streets and cars below merged into a glowing arc of light.
From this height, it felt as though he was observing the world from the night sky.
"Gao Fang," Zhan Nanxian called, hands clasped behind his back.
"What is it?" Gao Fang moved to his side.
"If someone tried to push you off from such a height, what would you do?"
Gao Fang was taken aback. "Would you choose to resist to the death, or jump?"
Gao Fang was puzzled. "What are you suggesting?" he asked, sensing a hint of something deeper in Zhan Nanxian’s words.
Zhan Nanxian shifted his gaze from the night sky to Gao Fang, "It’s nothing. You mentioned Yixin earlier. Given that we've been together for ten years, it's indeed time for us to consider marriage."
Gao Fang was surprised, "Are you serious?"
Zhan Nanxian nodded, returning to his seat. "How are preparations for the Leng case going?"
"So far, it's progressing well," Gao Fang responded. "Our main competitor for this case is Dai Zhong."
"I’m aware of that. What’s the issue?"
"Frankly, I don’t understand why Chi Bika recommended Wen Nuan."
Zhan Nanxian smiled faintly, "Bika consulted me about this."
Gao Fang was taken aback again, "Did you approve it?"
"Among the three candidates, Bika chose the one with the least experience but the most unique background. She must have her reasons."
"Should she attend the meeting on Monday then?"
“There’s no reason not to let her attend. There’s no need to treat her like a criminal until she actually does something wrong. Otherwise, it’ll only hinder my work.”
“Understood. It’s about the matter, not the person. I’ll inform Guan Ti.”
Zhan Nanxian said no more, his dark eyes drifting towards the half-open office door, now empty.
On Saturday morning, Wen Nuan rose early to prepare a selection of delicious side dishes. Every Saturday at noon, unless she was away, her sister Wen Rou would come over.
Their father, Wen He, had named them after a casual tradition—Wen Rou as the eldest daughter and Wen Nuan as the youngest. Although their names were slightly different, it didn’t affect Wen Nuan much.
Wen Rou, however, was often treated with less respect. For years, whenever the men around her deliberately pinched their throats to call her “Wen-Rou” in a high-pitched voice, she, who wasn’t particularly gentle, found it annoying and wanted to lash out.
“I’m fed up with this torture!” Wen Rou exclaimed from the sofa. “If I have a son in the future, I’ll name him Thermometer!”
Wen Nuan laughed. “What if it’s a daughter?”
“Then she’ll be called Wenquan!” Wen Rou replied confidently.
“Thankfully, it’s not Wencun,” Wen Nuan said as she handed her a peeled apple.
Wen Rou looked sideways with her beautiful eyes. “It’s so far away, how can I reach it?” Though she could easily grab it by leaning forward, she was too lazy.
Wen Nuan stood up, walked over, and put the apple directly into her mouth. “Why didn’t Dad call you a hothouse flower?”
“Bah! You still call me lukewarm.”
Wen Nuan smiled and returned to her room to change clothes.
Despite it being Saturday, she planned to head back to the company. Yang Ying had already left, and Zhan Nanxian was back. Since she’d be on her own at the meeting on Monday, it was better to prepare thoroughly so she wouldn’t be caught off guard by the boss’s questions.
Wen Rou glanced at her lavender coat and knee-length skirt and rolled her eyes. “Your monthly salary wouldn’t cover a few outfits like that. Why are you still going?”
Wen Nuan put on pearl-colored shoes with half-inch heels, rolled up her long hair, and secured it with a light jade hairpin. “What else would I do if I stayed home?”
“Wen Nuan.” Wen Rou’s eyes took on a pitiful look, like a puppy abandoned and hungry.
“My dear, that tactic only works on your boyfriend.”
Wen Rou raised her eyebrows. “One day, I’ll pry Zhan Nanxian away from Bo Yixin and kick him out!”
“Wow!” Wen Nuan marveled at her ambition. “I’ll be waiting to see that. Just don’t let me down.” She smiled, closed the door, and left.
Their mother had passed away when they were young, and their father had died ten years ago. Wen Rou sold their old house and used the proceeds to buy two apartments, one for each sister. With their father’s inheritance, they had more than enough to live comfortably. As the only two sisters in the world, they were particularly close.
Wen Rou worked as an investment manager at a large securities company. Her job was exciting and successful, and many people in the industry knew her. Wen Nuan was genuinely happy for her.
As for herself, Wen Nuan had always been unremarkable, but recently, being transferred to the 66th floor had made her quite prominent. Several companies had tried to poach her, likely interested in the Qianyu case she was involved in.
As she parked her car, Wen Nuan noticed a sapphire-blue Bugatti approaching. The car made a sharp turn and parked opposite hers. The occupants got out.
“Boss Zhan,” she greeted with a smile.
Zhan Nanxian looked slightly surprised but nodded and walked towards the special elevator. Wen Nuan followed, heading towards the employee elevator, which was ten meters away.
Zhan Nanxian turned his head, watching her for a moment before saying lightly, “Come here.” Wen Nuan hesitated briefly but then walked over. The elevator door opened with a ding. Zhan Nanxian entered first, standing casually in the middle, and Wen Nuan followed, standing at the far corner.
Staring into the full mirror door, Zhan Nanxian’s sharp eyes were reflected, and he noticed the delicate figure behind him. Though she was 165 cm tall, she was still shorter than him.
“The elevator password is 0909,” he said.
Her long eyelashes fluttered as she took a moment to process. “Yes, I remember.”
“Wen Rou called me just now.”
She looked up, surprised, and met his emotionless gaze in the mirror.
His lips curved into a faint smile. “She complained about me paying you so little that it couldn’t even feed a dog.”
She smiled. “She doesn’t understand our company’s welfare system. It’s a significant part of the salary structure.”
“Actually, I find it strange too,” he said, his gaze reflecting in the mirror, “Why are you here?”
Wen Nuan took a moment before replying seriously, “I’ll be honest. I received a significant offer from Dai Zhong and agreed to help them as a commercial spy.”
The elevator door closed with a ding, and they could no longer see each other’s expressions. Zhan Nanxian leaned slightly backward but said nothing. Wen Nuan watched his back as she exited the elevator.
Wen Nuan’s greatest realization after 25 years of life was that one should not be obsessed. When one is obsessed, life loses its joy.
Most people, in their subjective consciousness, are focused on themselves—how they are, what they want, and how they want things to be. Whenever something goes against their will or their ideas are not realized, they immediately feel wronged.
She wasn’t sure when she came to this understanding.
As an adult, her personality had become mellow and soft. She believed that nothing was worth insisting on. She didn’t mind the preferences and actions of those around her.
Ninety percent of the things in the world don’t need to be taken seriously, even for someone like Zhu Linlu, her boyfriend for three years.
In a private club, Zhu Linlu cut her steak into small pieces. “Aren’t you going to tell me that you’re Zhan Nanxian’s secretary?”
She looked up. “Does it matter if I say it? Besides, when did you ever tell me about the girls you pursued?”
Zhu Linlu was left speechless, a smile flickering in his eyes. For the 1,100th time, he asked, “Will you come home with me to meet my parents?”
She gazed at him with sympathy. “Did your mother pressure you into marriage again? How pitiful.”
He was frustrated. “You never care about me!”
She stroked her heart, pretending to be hurt. “Mr. Zhu, please read the newspaper. The whole city knows you’ve been in the headlines with a celebrity, a model, and a lady from a famous family. If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t have pretended not to notice your affairs for three years, waiting for you to turn back.”
She recited lines from the newspaper.
Zhu Linlu was so enraged that he nearly threw the napkin on the table. “Warm!”
“I’m here,” she responded respectfully.
He glared at her.
Wen Nuan sighed, set down her cutlery, and spread her hands. “Look, if you ask me to go out, I’ll never stay home. If you ask me to eat steak, I’ll never dare to eat pork or mutton. Where else will you find a girlfriend as good as me?”
Zhu Linlu laughed in frustration, his mouth wide open. At that moment, Wen Nuan noticed a faint, familiar smile across two empty tables. She turned abruptly to see Zhan Nanxian’s gaze meeting hers. He was relaxed against the soft chair, but his black eyes sparkled like stars in the cold night sky.
“What are you looking at?” His female companion asked tenderly, about to turn around.
Wen Nuan quickly turned her head. Zhu Linlu, already annoyed, had asked the waiter to settle the bill. After signing, he took her away. As they passed Zhan Nanxian's table, Wen Nuan greeted him politely, “Mr. Zhan.”
He merely nodded, not engaging further. Neither man acknowledged the other, their paths crossing without recognition.
The stunning woman sitting opposite Zhan Nanxian, renowned across Asia, was momentarily taken aback. “Wen Nuan?!”
Wen Nuan smiled warmly, “Hi, Yi Xin. Long time no see.”
Zhu Linlu snorted and hastily led Wen Nuan away. Once outside, he grumbled, “There are plenty of positions at Daizhong. Why stick with a low salary at Qianyu?”
Wen Nuan replied, “You never mentioned anything about this before.”
He retorted, “Before, you rarely saw him. Now you work with him daily. What if you two become so close that you leave me alone, and I’m left as a monk?”
Wen Nuan chuckled, “Don’t forget, you were the one who helped me send out dozens of resumes. Despite many offers, only Qianyu hired me.”
Zhu Linlu opened his mouth to respond but hesitated.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
He glanced sideways at her. “Wen Rou has been seeing someone from Singapore recently.”
Wen Nuan was taken aback. “I hadn’t heard about it.”
“She might not have mentioned it yet or doesn’t know how to,” Zhu Linlu speculated.
Wen Nuan nodded, absorbing the information.
That night, Wen Nuan tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Zhu Linlu’s comment about Wen Rou and the Singaporean left her uneasy. Why hadn’t Wen Rou shared this with her? The next morning, her eyes showed traces of sleeplessness.
Back at work, Wen Nuan instructed her assistant, Ding Xiaodai, to bring the prepared materials into the conference room. As senior visitors and technical management arrived, Zhan Nanxian joined them on time. They were surprised by the neatly arranged documents.
Wen Nuan distributed them, “Here’s Qianyu’s brochure, qualifications, capital structure, recent investment returns, audit reports from a top accounting firm, and conceptual planning for the bid. The only thing missing is the bid itself, which the technical department will submit.”
Gao Fang was impressed. “Did you prepare all this by yourself?”
“Yes. Is there an issue?”
“No issue, just surprised by how quickly you did this,” Gao Fang replied, noting Zhan Nanxian's satisfaction.
Zhan Nanxian reviewed the documents briefly before speaking. “Leng’s company is building the most luxurious resort in Asia with a multi-billion dollar budget. No single company can handle all projects. We’ll likely see eight to ten companies bidding for different segments. My focus is on the full intelligent automation control system for the resort.”
Gao Fang added, “The major competitors for intelligent control are Daizhong, Nanxiang, Changhong, and Jinxing. Daizhong is our main rival.”
“Guan Ti, organize the technical plan and bid book within a week. Gao Fang, handle procurement. We’ll secure long-term cooperation with suppliers offering lower discounts. My goal is to win this case,” Zhan Nanxian declared.
The meeting proceeded with detailed project arrangements.
Afterward, Wen Nuan went to the bathroom, splashed water on her face, and then returned to her desk. Ding Xiaodai informed her that President Zhan wanted to see her.
Wen Nuan knocked and entered, approaching Zhan Nanxian’s luxurious desk.
“Sit down,” he said, focused on his platinum laptop, his fingers moving quickly over the keyboard.
She sat as directed.
After sending an email, he pushed the laptop aside and clasped his hands on the desk. “I want to take you to dinner.”
Surprised, Wen Nuan replied, “I’ll arrange a time with Wen Rou, and we can all go together.”
Zhan Nanxian’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Why involve Wen Rou?”
Embarrassed, she said, “We all know each other. It wouldn’t be much of an expense to include my sister.”
Zhan Nanxian’s attention shifted back to his laptop as a new email arrived. He asked casually, “What do you do for fun?”
“Reading and cooking,” she answered.
He seemed intrigued. “You can cook?”
Wen Nuan smiled. “People change.”
With a faint smile, he returned to his screen. “If you’re not interested in going out, I won’t insist. I’ll discuss Yixin with her. You can leave now.”
“Okay.”
Once the doors closed behind her, Wen Nuan’s smile faded, her face reflecting her inner turmoil.
