Chapter 16

The Nai River's water was shockingly cold, but it felt different from typical river water. It was turbulent, yet strangely light.

Mu Sui fell into the river and was swiftly carried away. He sank and floated in the icy current. Amid the darkness and chaos, flickering lights in the water seemed to pierce his eyes, transforming into vivid images and sounds in his mind.

These were things he had struggled to understand before but had never quite grasped.

He saw a snowy mountain range with peaks stretching endlessly. The stark contrast between the white snow and the black, barren stones was striking. Between the peaks, a large stone inscribed with the words "Zhuliu City" was clearly visible.

Mu Sui felt like a snowflake, tossed by a fierce wind, passing through the stone marker of Zhuliu City, through the mountain gate, down the winding mountain path, and eventually floating to the summit of a snow-covered peak. There, hidden among the snow and rocks, stood a grand palace.

At the head of the main hall, a high seat held a golden seal, signifying authority. Beneath it, many people bowed their heads in reverence. He finally heard their voices calling him clearly.

"My Lord."

"City Lord."

"Qianshan Jun..."

He saw a familiar figure bowing respectfully in front of him, saying, "My Lord, Zhuliu City has secured a thousand gold..."

As the chaos of the river faded away, Mu Sui stabilized his body amidst the turbulence and opened his eyes, staring into the river’s dark depths. The confusion that had clouded his mind was gone. He remembered everything.

He was Wuliudi, the lord of Zhuliu City, known as Qianshan Jun, with wealth beyond imagination. He had indeed bought his life with a thousand gold coins. He had come to Mo Nengdu, boarded the ferry, and returned to the human world he yearned for. He even obtained the legendary inner elixir with the power of creation!

Mu Sui thought about this and pressed his dantian, sensing something different from before. He made sure his memories of leaving the Land of No Remain were not just a dream. Anger surged as he punched the earth.

He was back in the Land of No Remain again!

“Lost.”

The words echoed in his mind, a reminder of his fate. As the lord of Zhuliu City, he had a clear understanding of his past and future. He knew where he came from and where he was going. But now, the Land of No Remain seemed like a labyrinth of despair, trapping him between life and death, lost in the maze of fate.

He was also terribly hungry. The energy he had expended in the river left him ravenous, and he felt like eating the very ground beneath him. Yet, the warm inner elixir in his dantian maintained his sanity.

Mu Sui tried to harness more spiritual power from the inner elixir, but it was like reaching for an ocean with only a handful of water. It wasn’t working as he expected.

“Mu Sui! Mu Sui!”

He heard Meng Ruji’s voice in the distance. He looked up to see her controlling a formation and flying towards him on a broken silver ingot.

Exhaustion and hunger overwhelmed him, leaving him powerless. As Meng Ruji landed beside him and pressed her hands on his chest, he felt a strange, instinctive need to cling to her presence.

In a previous encounter with the Land of No Remain, his life-dead object had been a rabbit. The rabbit had depended on him in the same way he now felt drawn to Meng Ruji, a mix of companionship and curse.

Meng Ruji’s touch was both warm and intense, a contrast to the chill of the river. When she pressed down hard on his chest, Mu Sui’s last strength was spent in a pained groan.

"Spit it out!" Meng Ruji demanded urgently, pushing down repeatedly. When her efforts seemed ineffective, she pinched his nose and tilted his chin up, preparing for a kiss.

As their lips neared, Mu Sui’s heart raced uncontrollably. He tried to turn his face away, but Meng Ruji's warm, soft lips met his. The sensation was like a sharp fire, overwhelming his senses and leaving him dazed.

Meng Ruji, unaware of his internal struggle, eventually stepped back, realizing something was wrong. She saw his flushed cheeks and rapid breathing.

"Mu Sui, are you alright?" she asked, concerned.

Struggling to speak, Mu Sui managed to utter a hoarse, "No... no..."

After a long, heavy silence, Meng Ruji’s heart sank. She hurriedly flew off on her silver ingot to find food, instructing him to wait and not move.

Mu Sui watched her leave, his thoughts turning to the impressive magic she wielded. The Hengxu Mountain Demon King’s control over spiritual energy was remarkable, and he realized that only Meng Ruji could help him harness the inner elixir’s power.

He couldn’t let Meng Ruji know his true identity. He had to use her as a tool for his needs. When Meng Ruji returned with fruits, he noticed the wound on her forehead had reopened.

Despite his inner resolve, he couldn’t help but voice his concern. “The wound has split open...”

His heart sank as he scolded himself internally for his weakness. His mouth had betrayed him, and he cursed his own inability to keep control.
